The AI Accelerator is where ambitious AI-driven businesses come to grow. Over six months, you’ll get the support, connections and expertise you need to tackle global challenges and create real-world impact. From AgriTech to FinTech, this is about accelerating high-growth ventures into global success stories.
Founder of CircKit, Joe Darwen began his career as a musician. Joe's journey from musician to entrepreneur has been marked by a persistent drive to combine creativity with sustainability. His venture, CircKit, seeks to revolutionise the textile industry through innovative solutions aimed at integrating sustainability directly into production processes.
“In the music industry, creativity was at the forefront, and I wanted to bring that same spirit to solving real world problems with a sustainable business,” Joe explains.
Joe’s transition began when he took a role leading at an e-exporting programme at the Department for Business and Trade. This exposure sparked the initial idea of a sustainable marketplace, an ethical counterpart to digital giants like Amazon. However, “I realised that simply focusing on consumption wasn't enough. To make a real impact, we had to address the production side,” Joe recalls. This led to the foundation of CircKit, a platform that focuses on embedding sustainability into the core operations of textile manufacturers.
The fashion industry faces a critical challenge: 73% of textiles end up in landfill. The traditional linear consumption model is not only environmentally harmful but also financially wasteful.
“Our goal was to create a circular economy in fashion by designing processes that eliminate waste before it happens,” Joe notes.
CircKit revolutionises textile production by integrating data and decision making at the design stage. The platform shifts essential insights like materials and environmental impacts upstream in the process, allowing brands to design waste out of products and make informed, sustainable choices. “This solution provides brands with the tools they need to incorporate sustainability from the start, ultimately benefiting both the planet and their bottom line,” says Joe.
“The AI Accelerator was instrumental in CircKit's growth,”
Joe shared. “The sessions provided crucial insights from industry experts, helping us refine our strategies, while the programme also acted as a catalyst for high-level commercial introductions and strategic relationships.”
Expanding on this, Joe added:
“The accelerator encouraged us to step back and focus strategically, rather than getting lost in daily operations.”
This shift in perspective, along with new networking opportunities, has positioned CircKit well for growth. Meeting other founders was a personal highlight for Joe: “Sharing challenges with likeminded entrepreneurs helped us refine our approach and gain confidence in our strategy.”
● Secured a £1.4 million Innovate UK grant to develop the platform.
● Gained industry recognition with a feature in Vogue.
● Forged key partnerships including the European Institute of Technology.
CircKit aims to be an essential technology provider within the global textiles industry. By expanding into new areas, including soft furnishings and non-apparel textiles, Joe envisions a future where CircKit is integral to any company producing textiles.
“Our ultimate vision is to become the go to technology in textiles, similar to how businesses rely on HubSpot or QuickBooks,” concludes Joe.
CircKit stands at the forefront of sustainability in textiles, paving the way for a circular fashion industry. With its innovative approach, CircKit not only offers commercial success but also drives real environmental change.
